5 DAYS GORILLAS & CHIMPS SAFARI

Tucked in the lush of Western Uganda is Kibale national park which is a rainforest wonderland famously dubbed “Primate Capital of the World”

But it’s not just about Primates, Kibale dazzles with over 375 bird species, rare forest elephants, butterflies, tranquil crater lakes. Whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, birder or nature lover, Kibale offers an intimate, raw, and magical encounter with Uganda’s rich Biodiversity.

Bigodi swamp is also a hidden gem of Eco- tourism Just outside the Kibale lies this swamp.  A community run conservation success story and a paradise for birders and eco- tourists which is dubbed as “The home of the great blue Turaco” Bigodi is a peaceful swamp teeming with life with over 200 bird species, monkeys swinging through Papyrus and butterflies fluttering above boardwalk. Guided nature walks take you deep into the wetland’s serenity where every reveals the harmony between people and Nature. Bigodi is not only a haven for wildlife it’s a model of how tourism can empower local communities and protect fragile eco- systems.

5 days itinerary for Gorilla and Chimps Safari

 Day 1: Pickup in Entebbe and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

On the first day of your 5-day primates and wildlife safari, you will be met at Entebbe airport by our driver guide, who will brief you on your safari and then begin the journey to Kibale National Park, passing through Mubende, Kyenjojo, Fort Portal districts, and then to the park. On the trip, you will see beautiful landscapes, tea and banana plantations, homesteads, local people and farm lands among other things. You will have a stopover for lunch in Fort Portal town and the drive to Amabeere ga nyinaMwiru where you will explore the legendary stalagmite caves.

Drive to your lodge in Kibale Forest National Park and check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest and Bigodi Swamp Walk

Breakfast will be served at your lodge in the early morning, from where you will be driven to Kanyanchu Tourism Center for a briefing, and the Chimpanzee trekking will begin at 8 a.m. The chimp trekking adventure will last between 2 and 5 hours and will include excursions through the wooded scenery that covers a large portion of Kibale National Park. After lunch, in the afternoon, you’ll embark on a guided nature walk to the Bigodi Swamp. During the nature walk, expect to see a variety of bird species including the famous Shoe bill stork, as well as primates such as the Vervet and L’Hoest Monkeys. You will also have an opportunity to visit the local craft stall at Bigodi where you can buy a few souvenirs for yourself and your loved ones while supporting the local community.  Return back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

 On day 3 of your Safari, you will have breakfast early I the morning at your lodge and then check out. You will transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable passing through the Ishasha sector, which is located in the southern section of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will have a stopover for lunch in Kasese town before going on a short game drive in the park. The Ishasha area is famous for its tree climbing lions and abundant wildlife species like elephants, antelopes, buffaloes, bush bucks and so many more.

Proceed with your drive to Bwindi national park where you will check into your lodge, get refreshed and have dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

This is the day you’ve been looking forward to. Have an early breakfast at your lodge, as soon as possible since your guide will take you up at 6 a.m. You’ll take a short drive to the Parks headquarters in Buhoma. You are expected to be at Buhoma at 7 a.m. for a briefing by the park’s chief ranger, which will begin at 8 a.m., and then you will be divided into groups of 8 people based on the gorilla troop you will be tracking. Tracking begins at 8:30 a.m., so make every effort to stay on time.

Each tracking party is limited to eight people, and each group is led by a park ranger and a park guide. Tracking can take anywhere from one to six hours, depending on how readily and quickly the gorillas are located. Once you’ve found a gorilla family, you’ll have exactly one hour with them; hence, make the most of your time and don’t forget to shoot lots of images without using your camera’s flash. Make sure to wear your hiking boots today as the hiking trails in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest can be very steep and slippery. You will have your lunch which you packed from your lodge before heading back to base where you will receive your gorilla trekking certificate after the gorilla trekking experience, retire to the lodge for an evening relaxation, Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Departure

After your breakfast, you will drive to Lake Bunyonyi for the morning boat ride in one of the traditional canoes. The lake is good site for bird watching activities with commonly sighted bird species like the grey crowned cranes, Levelland cuckoo, African kingfisher.

From the canoe ride you will continue your journey to Entebbe. With an en-route stopover for lunch in Mbarara and another stopover at the equator monuments in Kayabwe for a few pictures before proceeding with your transfer back to Entebbe. Once in Entebbe, you can have your guide drop you off at your preferred hotel or at the airport in Entebbe
