Overview of Lake Mburo National Park
Nestled in the heart of southwestern Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is a breathtaking wildlife destination covering 370 square kilometers. The park is the only savannah reserve in Uganda with a lake at its center, making it a unique ecological hotspot with a mix of savannah, acacia woodland, rocky ridges, and wetlands. It is home to an array of wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, elands, and hippos, making it a perfect safari destination. With over 350 bird species, the park is also a haven for birdwatchers. Unlike many other Ugandan parks, walking safaris, horseback safaris, and cycling tours are permitted, offering visitors an up-close encounter with nature.
Main Highlights & Activities
DAY 1: TRAVEL TO LAKE MBURO – EVENING GAME DRIVE
At around 6:00am, transfer to lake Mburo National Park Located in the Western side of Uganda. After Kampala driving will continue southwards till you make a stop at the 0 degree latitude (Equator). At this point, you will experience a local experiment of locating the Equator line without a Global positioning satellite (G.P.S) if time allows. You can take photos and also support the local community by purchasing souvenirs at the stopover of the Equator.
Thereafter, driving continues southwards through green vegetation cover of the local community plantations of bananas, coffee, cassava and vegetables. Landscape remains relatively flat until it changes to a flat raised land (plateau) of Kyazanga after Masaka town.
As we proceed, shall have an enroute relaxation for lunch as we wait for the evening Game drive.
At Lake Mburo National Park you expect to view zebras, Impala on a lucky day you will see the world’s largest antelopes (Eland). These three animals are specialty for this game park because they are not found in other parks and this will be viewed during the evening Game drive.
After the Game drive, shall drive back ready to check in your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: MORNING GAME DRIVE- BOAT CRUISE – NATURE WALK AND RETURN
After a cup of Uganda coffee, enjoy an early morning game drive, this will take 2-3 hrs. where you should expect to see Impalas, Topis, Zebras, Leopard, African Elephants and more various animal species, go back to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. After this meal, we visit Rubanga forest for a nature walk, this will reward you with various primate species like the baboons, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys and bird species like the sun birds, herons, and wood peckers among others.
After the activity, shall get back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch as well. After lunch, we shall drive down to the lake for the boat ride expect to view more wildlife spotting, Hippopotamus, crocodiles, birds along the lake, like the common pied kingfishers, pygmy kingfishers and many more on a lucky day.
As you get back from the boat ride, the driver will be waiting for you to take you through the game trails as you wind up the day with the last minute sightings, back to the lodge ready to check out and on the main road driving back to your preferred place.
